Second Sleep Study, I Have To Have A Second Sleep Study With A Nasal Cpap Machine?

I was never told after the first one how many times I stoped breathing the tech just said I will probably have to come back to use a cpap machine. It must not be too bad someone else I know told me they told him. Why do they use a cpap machine and watch you sleep?

Your first study was “bad enough” to warrant a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) titration test. They will keep adjusting how much pressure on the CPAP machine while you are asleep so it will have enough pressure to keep your airway open at nite when you sleep. You should have been told by your provider how many times you stop breathing because that is how they “grade” your apnea. 0-5 times per hour is normal. 6-10 times per hour is mile apnea. 10-20 times per hour is moderate sleep apnea. More than 20 times per hour is severe apnea.
